Abstract :
A simplified procedure for generating a known RF (radio frequency) field required for EMI (electromagnetic interference) testing in accordance with MIL-STD-462, Method RS03, is described. The procedure obviates the need for the extensive array of field-strength instrumentation used with conventional techniques. It is also less susceptible to error. Calibration of antenna factor and path loss is performed using two antennas of identical design and construction and a standard power meter. Following calibration, one of these antennas is used to generate the desired field strength following readily implemented guidelines. Use of the method has been found to reduce the skill level required to perform what is considered an otherwise tedious and time-consuming task
