Abstract :
Photonic-crystal distributed-feedback gratings are employed to produce vertical emission from very-large-area mid-IR "W" lasers. For a FWHM pump-spot diameter of 400-μm, ≈60% of the output is transmitted through a far-field aperture of diameter 1.8°.
