Abstract
Working in conjunction with the Cal PV4U Working Group, the Southern California Edison Company (Edison) developed a unique off-grid pilot program in which Edison offers individuals 15-year photovoltaic (PV) service contracts. This paper: (1) describes Edison´s program; (2) traces the steps which were taken to develop the program in a collaborative process comprised of a diverse set of stakeholders; (3) provides an evaluation of the program´s experience since receiving regulatory approval; and (4) describes how an off-grid pilot program can accelerate the commercialization of PV technologies and provide the foundation for the future integration of PV technologies on the utility system
