Abstract :
Efforts to define the future European digital mobile communication system (EDMCS) are reported. This will be a cellular network. The purpose of the EDMCS is to provide a digital radio-telephone service with hand-over during a communication, in a service area which is expected to be a great part of the CEPT countries. The EDMCS handles the following procedures: call set-up and release, handling of supplementary service, location updating, paging, hand-over and authentication. Each cell of the EDMCS offers a common control channel, several traffic channels, and dedicated control channels. The channel organization of the EDMCS system is described. The load caused by the subscribers on the different channels is evaluated for a given cell
