Abstract :
This paper presents a method that follows the evolution of fires and estimates the carbon emissions to the atmosphere due to pastures burning. The method combines multi-temporal remote sensing images into a GIS with vector map information. The method determines the burned regions associated with grassland management and makes an estimation of release of carbon into the atmosphere and also gives a next-fire-probability to each region. The conservation of large tropical savanna pastures is important in relation to problems such as global warming and ecological preservation. Systems such as the one proposed provide solutions to the ecological responsibilities that are faced today
