Abstract
Polarization-mode-dispersion places a fundamental barrier to conventional single-carrier systems. However, for multi-carrier systems such as coherent optical orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexed systems, PMD provides a benefit of polarization diversity against polarization-dependent-loss-induced fading and consequently improves the system margin.
