Abstract
The topology required of a dual mode cellular telephone mobile unit, which can operate either in the conventional US 30 kHz analog FM mode or in a proposed 10 kHz digital channel is described. This 10 kHz channel is envisioned to be an important step in cellular mobile telephony because it triples the number of channels/MHz of bandwidth and provides error-controlled voice/data transmission with an ISDN-like interface. A transceiver block diagram is shown and performance specifications are presented. Parameters for 10 kHz radio transmission parameters, modulation formats, and voice coding techniques are discussed
