Abstract :
Two new methods for vector quantization (VQ) codebook design are presented, consisting of a sequential combination of two well-known VQ design techniques: the Kohonen self organizing feature maps and the generalized Lloyd algorithm. The combined methods profit from the best features of their constituents achieving a superior performance to either of them
