Abstract :
The evolution of the gas-turbine-engine design and development process to place new emphasis on reliability and maintainability is examined with motivation provided by R&M 2000, a US Air Force process to enhance weapons systems´ reliability and maintainability. Also considered are the use of the logistics support analysis process, the use of electronic engine controls as diagnostic devices, and the application of field experience to improve reliability and maintainability
