  • Abstract
The contribution describes a possibility to synthesize a configuration with a special distribution of electric potential and electric field strength, respectively. The desired potential function can be given in general co-ordinates, only. The actual analytical expression of the field configuration is determined from the relations between the general equations and the geometry which is described in a still unknown co-ordinate system. For this purpose, the tensor calculus is especially suitable. The metric of the space forms the basis of this design approach. As a result, an electrode configuration is obtained which generates the desired potential and field strength
