Abstract
It is maintained that the cellular capacity problem can be solved by a TDM/TDMA system now used in the BETR (basic exchange telephone radio) service. 16 kb/s modified ´RELP´ voice compression with 64 kb/s QPSK transmission provides four voice paths backwardly compatible with single NBFM analog circuits. All transcoding and modern functions are done by a single DSP
