Abstract :
The aim of the present paper is, using ocean backscatter cross-section measurements, to estimate the surface wind field which is an important parameter involved in latent heat transfer between ocean and atmosphere. The radar cross-section is related to speed and wind direction through an empirical relation for the X-band and the variable polarization. As measurements are altered by the rain, the authors also try to estimate the rain perturbation
