Abstract :
A new extension to articulatory modeling is described which modifies the areas as a function of the flow. The model is described by ten parameters which determine the longitudinal and vertical positions of the teeth, tongue body and lips. The use of continuous spatial derivatives of the area simplifies the mathematical analysis by producing a simplified set of equations to be solved iteratively, and the inclusion of nonparallel flow in the areas around constrictions produces a more accurate model. Results show that the model produces close matches to reference spectra with little error in formant frequency and 3-6 dB error in bandwidth for continuous vowels.
