Abstract :
Sensitivity to noise, presence of undesirable interfering cross-terms and generally redundant encoding of information, are major factors that limit the scope of applications of the Wigner distribution(WD). An outer product expansion is proposed, based on the singular value decomposition, for data compression of the WD. It is then used, with synthetic and experimental data, to suppress aforementioned effects and enhance the estimate of the WD.
