Abstract :
As a result of the Airport and Airway Safety and Capacity Expansion Act of 1987, the US Coast Guard is required to synchronize its master Loran-C transmitting stations to within 0.1 μs of coordinated universal time (UTC) and to study the possible affects of synchronizing secondary Loran-C transmitting stations to UTC. The author discusses some of the preliminary actions the Coast Guard is taking to meet the requirements of the law. Particular attention is given to an experiment with NEUS (the Northeast US Loran-C chain)
