Abstract :
Systems level requirements often make it desirable for Medium band (9.6 KBPS to 16 KBPS) voice coding algorithms to pass in-band signaling tones. However, current algorithmic development has been almost completely driven by subjective voice quality requirements. This paper examines categories of in-band signaling tones and various system issues concerning signaling are discussed. Experimental results are presented concerning the tone signaling characterization of two RELP [1] Vocoders with transmission rates of 14.57 KBPS and 11.37 KBPS.
