Abstract
An investigation was conducted to determine the magnetic field levels in the vicinity of the static VAr compensator (SVC) at Eskom´s Impala 275 kV substation. Of specific interest were the variation in magnetic field levels and harmonic content resulting from changes in the firing angle of the thyristor controlled reactor (TCR). Magnetic field levels were measured during three different settings of firing angle and with the SVC off. The results of this investigation are reported in this paper
