Abstract :
The available P2P streaming protocols are not compatible with each other for real-time video-on-demand (VOD) applications. As a result, they are not suitable for business usage on large-scale networks. In contrast, the BT protocol, which is a strictly-defined file sharing protocol, performs very well in data transferring and is supported by a large number of P2P file sharing systems. In this paper, we propose a speed-evaluation piece-selection algorithm based on a BT bucket priority downloading algorithm to optimize the BT downloading performance for the real-time VOD application. The experiments demonstrate that the improved algorithm meets the requirements of real-time and fluency for VOD applications. It provides BT protocols with a new business application, and greatly expands BT protocol´s business usage.
