Abstract :
In this paper a new two-dimensional (2-D) digital filter structure is presented. The proposed structure has a short clock cycle time or a high data throughput rate, independent of the order of the filter. Parallelism and pipelining are the two features of the proposed filter structure that contribute to its high speed performance. Hardware of the filter utilizing no multipliers is outlined. It has been shown that the filter is capable of filtering images of size up to 512×512 pixels with a TV scan rate of 30 frames/sec in real-time. Finally, the new filter structure is compared to the one implemented by distributed arithmetic and is shown to be superior.
