Abstract :
In this paper, we propose an edge detection method for detecting edges by combining a traditional edge detection operator with shear transform utilizing the fact that the shearing operation provides a more favorable treatment of directions. The shearing operation makes the directional edges easy to be detected by traditional operators. Moreover, we can consider the proposed method as a general method for it is applicable to other edge detection operators. The experiment results have indicated that our method is superior to the traditional ones in the effectiveness of edge detection and the ability of noise rejection.
