Abstract
A novel ridge structure with the optical antiguiding layers for horizontal transverse modes was proposed. Lasing characteristics were analyzed with the distance from the bottom of the mesa to the bottom of the upper guiding layer d as a parameter. It was found that the threshold current and kink levels are improved, while keeping I- V characteristics.
