Abstract :
The problem of obtaining the optimal initial conditions and pulse values is discussed. If the pulse positions are available then these optimal values can be obtained by minimizing the mean square error between the original signal and the reconstructed signal at the receiver. The result is obtained by solving a large but simple system of linear equations. The optimal values improve the signal-to-noise ratio 3-5 dB when compared with a multipulse algorithm which operates on data at the transmitter.
