Abstract
An algorithm is presented for optimal least-squares estimation of the numerator and denominator coefficients of a quarter-plane 2-D filter to match a given spatial response. The numerator and denominator estimation problems are decoupled leading to an iterative estimatation of the denominator and linear estimation of the numerator. Computer simulations of common filter designs bear out the superiority of the proposed method over existing ones
