Abstract :
N3 is the broadband network that connects the NHS in England and most sites in Scotland. Early in 2007, BT, as the N3 Service Provider, delivered the English network two months ahead of schedule. With over 20,000 connections, N3 is already one of Europe’s largest, secure, VPN networks. N3 will become one of the largest converged private networks in the world, carrying multimedia applications across the NHS at speeds of up to 100Mbps. And the journey has only just begun. Late in 2006 the network was upgraded to support 6-Layer Quality of Service (QoS) and in July 2007 N3SP formally launched N3 Voice Services based on Voice over IP. There is much more to come from one of the most advanced public sector networks in the world serving 1.4 million users.
