Abstract
IMS (the IP Multimedia Subsystem) is one of the principal components in the evolution of the control plane as fixed and mobile networks migrate to IP. The Service Delivery Platform (SDP) is the basis for value added services, such as multi-media content and games. The IMS is specified by ETSI/3GPP standards, while the SDP has emerged as a pragmatic approach within the industry. This presentation describes how IMS and the SDP combine to deliver new services. It describes the technical and business challenges that operators face in deploying a new service plane. It uses operator case studies to highlight key points. Finally it looks at how emerging Web 2.0 technology will affect the NGN.
