Abstract :
In the paper, two SPIHT-Coded image transmission modes are proposed by taking advantage of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) diversity to perform unequal error protection (UEP). Firstly, the SPIHT-Coded Image information stream is divided into different quality substreams according to their different importance. Then, for serial transmission mode, the most important substream is transmitted by space-time block code (STBC), while the less important one is transmitted by Vertical-Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time (V-BLAST). The parallel mode transmits the different substreams simultaneously by combining the STBC and V-BLAST. Simulation results show that the serial transmission mode is much better than the parallel one.
