Abstract :
Product is a physical system comprising interacting components that performs a set of functions. The product design is a process from abstract to concrete. In product conceptual design phase, function is one of the most important factors. Function-based modelling makes design problem modular and structured. It is the basis of the following detail design in product lifecycle design process. In this paper, function of product is decomposed into sub-functions or function-cells. These sub-functions or function-cells are combined into the product´s original model. Accordingly, function principle structure model is generally used to represent functional requirement formally in conceptual design process. The construction of Function principle structure model is an important task in product conceptual design phase. In this paper, a new function principle structure model for conceptual design is proposed. According to the principle of function decomposition, the function principle structure model is constructed.
