Abstract
Products´ stylistic features can be divided into explicit and implicit cues according to the theory of knowledge´s division. Based on the theoretic frame and knowledge system of industrial design, patterns of design DNA is defined as explicit cues, implicit cues and mappings between them. The conceptual model of inheritance and variation is proposed and concept of inheritance power is defined. This paper also studied the operative mechanism of design DNA in the process of new product design. Finally, the key technologies and methods were discussed.
