Abstract
A fluctuation model of cascading overload in power networks is developed in this paper. The aim of developing this model is to provide a new angle of view for the cascading overload phenomenon and find some regularities. An example in IEEE14 system is also provided for this aim. In this example, the fluctuation indexes are calculated on the basis of analysis for cascading overload. The results of study show that under the condition of random failures, the fluctuation index increases along with the flow level of the power network. This regularity is valuable for further study on the cascading overload phenomenon or the cascading failure phenomenon in the power network.
