Abstract :
The MODIS land cover and land-cover change products are global products that will be derived from MODIS data following the launch of the MODIS instrument in 1998. The land cover product will provide about 20 classes of land cover based largely on major life-form vegetation types. The land-cover change product will recognize change processes, rather than simply document change with time from one cover category to another. Both products will be derived from a database of monthly composited MODIS products ranging from surface reflectance to surface temperature. The products will be available beginning 18 months (land cover) or 27 months (land-cover change) after launch
