Abstract
An approach to the modeling and regulation problem of a buck converter which relies on its hybrid nature is presented. The buck converter is modeled as a switched affine system. Then, using the stored energy in the inductor and the capacitor as the common Lyapunov function, switching rules and activation region of all the subsystems are defined to assess quadratic stability of the converter. Simulation results are provided and compared with those of PID control to demonstrate the validity of this approach. The proposed modeling and control methodology can be extended to other types of converter and port controlled Hamilton linear switched affine system.
