Abstract :
Social criticism is the foundation of evolution in society, and throughout history revolutionary thinkers have expressed observations, criticisms and discontent through popular entertainment mediums of their time. In 20th and 21st century we are witnessing the games industry rise as a widespread, influential and powerful member of the entertainment industry and so games - the most interactive of current mediums - is a natural evolution of popular social criticism. This paper reviews and proposes games as a major, legitimate medium of powerful social criticism and communication of difficult or sensitive subject matter.
