Abstract
We propose the concept of performance monitoring through channel estimation by receiver signal processing. We show that in coherent-optical-orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexed (CO-OFDM) systems, critical optical system parameters can be accurately monitored without resorting to separate monitoring devices.
