Abstract
The creation of a multiprogramme TV broadcasting system in Russia is of great significance for the political, economical and cultural life of the country. The territory of Russia is covered by two TV programmes. Increasing the number of programmes to 5...6 is discussed. The only possible solution to this problem may be the accelerated development of a satellite direct TV broadcasting systems (DBS). To fulfil this target the DBS GALS family is being created. The authors show the major technical performance and service areas over Russian territory of the GALS and Gals-R spacecraft. The applications of these spacecraft will allow one to receive DBS programmes using individual sets with antenna diameters of about 0.6-1.0 m. Head earth stations operating with cable networks will be used to organize the major channels to supply TV centres with TV programmes
