Abstract
The mean refractive index of liquid biological tissue is discussed by the example of human blood tissue composed of blood corpuscles and blood plasma. The scattering and transmission of light is respectively considered in order to calculate the mean refractive index of human blood. The result is compared with the reported values. It shows that the transmission of light should be firstly considered to get the mean refractive index of liquid biological tissue. The method will also be of referential importance for indirect measurement of refractive index of solid biological tissue.
