Abstract
Improvements in delivery accuracy of large-caliber munitions have increased their threat to fleets of light armored vehicles and equipment shelters. It is suggested that the ballistic protection of such vehicles can be augmented by the use of aramid liners (or some combination of liners and applique armor) made of a combination of ceramics and aramid fabrics. Spaced aramid liners are thought to be more effective than a single liner of the same weight. It is noted that, although test data is still scarce, sufficient tests have been run to demonstrate that aramid liners hold considerable promise
