Abstract
In recent years, with the rapid urban development and expansion, a large number of residential quarters have emerged out. But the designs of these settlements are following the same pattern, with the disadvantages of lacking of resistance and environmental characteristics. This paper analyzes the relationship between the construction of settlements in the design and the context, stresses the importance of shaping the spiritual environment in the settlements and its possible solutions, and proposes the introduction of the concept of sustainable development in designing the settlements and the trend of modern settlements.
