Abstract :
In this paper, the degradation of reconstructed image quality, due to the errors of MPEG-2 video stream, is analyzed in detail. There are many fixed-length codewords (FLC) in MPEG-2 video stream except for those variable-length codewords (VLC). Although the errors in FLCs can not lead to desynchronisation, they can propagate errors. Therefore, it is necessary to find error position and process promptly in real-time operation. The error-detection approaches which are directed against damaged macroblocks or slices usually appearing in MPEG-2 image, are proposed by using the smooth principle
