Abstract :
Defining and resolving design conflicts are the most important aspect of product innovative design. TRIZ provides theories, methods and tools for resolving design conflicts, but is scarce in identifying conflicts. Function-effect-structure (FES) framework constructed for representing the connections of design object is an effective problems analysis way in product design. This paper presents a product innovative design process integrating TRIZ with FES. The mapping decision-making procedure for inventing the required function in FES framework may lead to opposing demands or unwanted physical phenomena within the actual system. Integrating TRIZ into FES to analyze and eliminate contradictions will bring designer to find ideal solution. This innovative design model provides designer an organized, systematic approach and efficiently shortens the problem-solving process. A practical application of this work is also presented.
