Abstract :
This paper concerns with the problem of supporting multiple QOS classes for BISDN services. In order to support multiple QOS classes, the cell loss rate and cell delay must be controlled. We propose a scheme that can effectively control the cell loss rate and cell delay for each QOS class in an output queueing system. The delay and loss control strategy is used to assign both delay and loss priorities to different services. Loss-sensitive cells are given a higher priority to access the buffer to ensures smaller cell loss probability; while delay-sensitive cells are given a higher priority to access the output link to meet the shorter delay requirement. Four traffic classes combining two different delay and loss requirements are considered in the performance evaluation. We have analyzed the cell delay and the cell loss rate for all four traffic classes. The evaluation results show that the proposed scheme can effectively and efficiently control multiple QOS classes
