Abstract :
In H.264/AVC, the rate distortion of Intra-frame (I-frame) significantly affects the video quality. This paper presents a novel I-frame rate control algorithm for H.264/AVC. In this algorithm, a rate control model is established among Bit Rate, Mean Square Error (MSE) and Quantization Parameter (QP). By adaptive updating this model, our proposed algorithm is capable of providing more accurate estimation for the QP of I-frame than other conventional methods. Experimental results show that it can not only significantly improve the video quality (up to 1.83 dB), but also keep the buffer occupancy much steadier comparing with the existing rate control algorithm G012.
