Abstract :
Stability conditions for nonlinear recursive filters are established. The results are applied to nonlinear recursive filters of the form y(n)=f[x(n), y (n-1)]. In the case of image filtering by incorporating with a multi-directional scheme, a two-dimensional nonlinear recursive image filter, satisfying these conditions, with combined edge-sharpening and noise-smoothing characteristics has been developed. It can be used for image enhancement or restoration, or as a pre-processor for coding techniques
