Abstract
DIY is the personal hand-made modern design fashion. It comes from the people´s boredom of the modern similar products and the design instinct. It have experienced in the course of development in history of human design. In a way, DIY always is the existing form of traditional handcrafts. However, the current situation is that traditional handcrafts disappeared gradually, DIY developed rapidly. By analyzing the characteristics of DIY and traditional handcrafts such as personality, uniqueness, manual traces, this article find out the possibility of combination of the two design modes in modern society, and explore the effective ways to combine: simplification, modernization, education, and industrialization. These routes can make traditional handcrafts in the form of DIY continue and provide rich design resources and a broader space for its development.
