  • Abstract
The Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (GSWEBOK) is a good first step in characterizing the contents of the software engineering discipline and in providing a topical access to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK). However, the GSWEBOK is seriously lacking as a guide to how the SWEBOK can be used to explore system failures as a way of enhancing practitioner´s preparations for the software engineering profession. This lack is not limited to the Guide. This is why it is very important, in order that software system failure may be understood from a software engineering point of view, that a new conception of what the SWEBOK is, as well as new approaches to its access, need to be developed
