Abstract :
Summary form only given. Fixed wireless cellular mobile networks convergence: technologies, solutions, services" tutorial covers the integration aspects of fixed and mobile wireless networks with focus on management and quality of services for both voice and data communications. The wireless networking coverage includes fixed wireless local area networks (WLAN), wireless broadband access (WiMAX), wireless personal area networks (WPAN), near-filed wireless sensor networks (WSN), and GSM/CDMA mobile radio networks. Current and emerging convergence solutions are evaluated for their architecture, functionality and convergence abilities: IEEE 802.11a/b/g WLANs, 802.16 WiMAX, 802.14 Bluetooth PANs, WBA and RFID WSN, GSM/CDMA cellular radio networks. The convergence standardized solutions, namely, Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA), IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) are analyzed in the light of use of common handsets and unique telephone numbers across all types of wireless networks.
