  • Abstract
Ad hoc networks consist of a set of nodes equipped with wireless interfaces and they are designed to form self-organizing and spontaneous networks. They are usually multi hop in nature. A node uses the resources of other nodes that happen to be within its radio range in order to facilitate communication by relaying traffic to distant nodes. Network topologies of MANET are highly dynamic due to the potential mobility of the nodes. AODV is an on demand routing protocol widely studied for MANET. This protocol finds routes for a node only when it has data packet for transmission. In this paper a modification of AODV protocol based on polar coordinate system for MANET is proposed to make it adaptable for VANET. During route discovery process AODV floods the network with large number of packets consuming power and bandwidth. This modified AODV limits the route discovery process to a limited region using GPS data like position, speed and track angle of source and destination node. Forwarding of packets by intermediate nodes is computed based on polar coordinate system. Azimuth is used as the most important parameter for these computations.
