Abstract :
The number of effective looks in a SAR image is an essential parameter for determining the speckle level in the image. In particular, it permits the evaluation of the speckle standard normalized deviation in the image. This value is at the center of the majority of speckle filtering techniques. We propose to use a maximum likelihood approach based on a method of functional density estimation in order to estimate this parameter
