Abstract
Two algorithms combining vector quantization with motion compensation for data reduction are presented. The vector quantization technique used in the algorithms is a mean residual vector quantizer (MRVQ) with 8-bit mean, and the motion compensation technique is a simple block matching algorithm. Both VQ and motion compensation are based on squared error performance criterion. The algorithms are tested on USC data base sequences and distortions plotted. A comparison is made between motion compensated vector quantization and conventional VQ.
