Abstract
This paper provides an analysis of the operation and control of a three-unit module common to many chemical and petrochemical manufacturing operations. A number of control alternatives are evaluated for their ability to control product quality, maintain production capacity, and maintain energy efficiency in the face of several simple disturbances. The study identifies and quantifies several plant-wide control issues which are often overlooked when local unit operations are controlled out of a plant-wide context
