Abstract
A digital signal processing (DSP)-type phase synchronizer based on the method of least squares (PS-MLS) is proposed that can replace the conventional circuits for phase synchronizers, such as phase-locked loops (PLLs). The construction of PS-MLS is different from that of PLLs. The proposed PS-MLS has advantageous characteristics compared with the conventional DSP-type PLLs and can satisfy three important points of PLLs simultaneously: fast acquisition, wide pull-in range, and good noise suppression. Only two steps are required for the acquisition (in a noise-less case), the condition to accomplish synchronization is relaxed, and is equal to the sampling theorem (fi ⩾2fs ), and the noise suppression performance is greatly improved compared with the conventional PLL
